The Moroccan groom's outfit: jabador, djellaba, gandoura or selham?

The four classic pieces

1. 01

   Jabador

   A long tunic worn with matching trousers, usually embroidered at the collar, the front and the cuffs. Elegant and comfortable, it is the most popular choice for weddings.

2. 02

   Djellaba

   The long hooded robe. In fine wool or in lighter fabrics, it gives a more traditional, dignified look.

3. 03

   Gandoura

   A light robe, often sleeveless or with short sleeves — ideal for summer celebrations and warm evenings.

4. 04

   Selham

   The ceremonial cape worn over the outfit. It instantly adds solemnity and is often worn by the groom.

What the groom usually wears

Many grooms choose a white or cream jabador or djellaba, sometimes with a selham for the ceremony, and babouches. Some also change outfits during the celebration, like the bride.

There are no strict rules: every family adapts the traditions to its region and its taste.

Dressing the men of the family

• Choose a shared colour palette so the family looks harmonious in the photos.
• Leave the lightest colours — white or cream — to the groom.
• Prefer gandouras for summer weddings and outdoor celebrations.
• Plan the babouches as carefully as the outfits.
